11. Gonnesa – Normann Mining Village, San Giovanni Mine

The village consists of a few houses nestled among pine and holm oak trees, which originally housed the mine's offices and warehouses.Over time, the offices moved downstream to the San Giovanni mine, and the existing buildings were converted into houses.The English company Gonnesa Mining Company Ltd., applying the then-current class separation rule, allocated the village to its managers and executives, leaving the workers' homes to the miners in the nearby San Giovanni mine and the workers' village of Bindua, then known as Ceramica because it housed a brick factory.

The surrounding area features mines, caves, and industrial archaeology sites, supported by an extensive infrastructure for active tourism, including 48 km of hiking trails and numerous sport climbing routes. The site is immersed in lush, wild nature.

The Villaggio Normann Association works to protect and promote Sardinia's mining villages. Through self-construction projects led by volunteers, the mining village is undergoing a gradual redevelopment process and is open for public visits.

Opening days and hours: The village is always open to public. Guided tours or hikes are possible upon reservation and leaded by professional guides.
