1. Guspini – Montevecchio Mine

The Montevecchio Mine is one of the largest mining complexes in Sardinia and allows visitors to learn every aspect of life in a lead and zinc mine. The site is divided into two different visitable areas (Guspini and Arbus):

Guspini Area: offers six different tours, from the Sanna-Castoldi family management building, the mine's founders, to the miners' houses; as well as getting up close to the shafts and understanding how they worked through pumps, compressors, and a winch, and then passing through the workshops, the technological heart not only of the mine but also of the entire surrounding area. The gem remains the Galleria Anglosarda, the only mining tunnel, now a touristic tunnel, accessible to tourists. A 4x4 tour is available to visit the entire mining area, including the nearby mines, up to the southernmost area of the Piscinas dunes.

Superlatives:

- Sullivan compressor, 1903 arrived from America, which produced compressed air for the shafts;

- Mechanical Electrical Workshop stopped working 1985 and today can be entirely visitable with original machines, divided between: carpentry, foundry and tornery building;

- Mining Direction built in 1877, it was Sanna-Castoldi house, owners of the mine;

- Real mining tunnel adapted for guided tours;

- First example of social revolution because also poor people, thanks to work and dedication, could improve their social conditions;

- From 1932 to 1953 the mine had its own currency, that was also recognised by the nearby area.
