Open Your Mine

With “Open Your Mine,” the Historical and Environmental Geomining Park of Sardinia is putting together a model that encourages tourism development in areas that have been affected by geological and mining sites, both abandoned and active. This community engagement project was launched at the end of 2021 as part of the broader “Sardinia Mining Destination” project, whose main objective was to promote the identity of the Park's territories, improve their way of being perceived, and highlight their potential in an innovative and sustainable way from an economic, cultural, and environmental point of view.

Through events lasting one or more days, spread across different areas of the Park, we aim to reconnect former mining communities with their mines and, at the same time, educate travelers about Sardinia's vast mining and geological heritage. Each event offers a variety of tourist products related to different segments, allowing you to experience the Park's territories through activities ranging from classic museum visits to mining site tours and outdoor activities like trekking and mountain biking. Each activity is enriched and conducted safely with the support of tour and environmental hiking guides, geologists, archaeologists, mining engineers, and more. It offers thematic focuses on the historical, archaeological, natural, and mining characteristics of the places visited.
