Palau Bear

Capo d'Orso - Palau (SS)

Site Category: Geological

The name of the monument refers to the shape of the animal the natural sculpture looks like, which is forged in the granite rocks that constitute the headland of the same name. The combination of chemical and physical action of natural elements, principally sea water and wind, have created amazing erosive shapes like tafoni and niches such as to create the shape of a bear. Already in the II century a.C. the rock was well known to sailors, capturing man’s imagination.
